Tallinn Secondary School No.2 in 1960s

From the 1960s the most memorable person in the school was headmaster Aleksei Tsõgankov, also known as Paša. Although he was appointed to this position because he had no previous encounterment with the school, he soon became a true school’s patriot and carried out many projects to ensure that the school had a great reputation. He was also keen on checking every day whether students wore the appropriate uniforms.

Most common extracurricular activities were the art club and the technology club. It was very important for the school management that students were part of the political youth organisations because the number of pioneers and Komsomol members showed the quality of the school. A popular task for pioneers and Komsomol members was collecting scrap and paper. They even held all-union championships for that.

Sport was also highly valued. Since the 1950s the physical culture collective was named after Georg Lurich, a famous Estonian wrestler and an alumnus of the school. All students from the fourth to the eleventh grade were voluntarily part of the collective. The school held sports days, elections of the best athletes and friendship matches with other schools. The main organiser of the named events was a PE teacher Aleksander Prikk in whose honour they call the alumni day sport competition Grand Prikk.

Music also held an important role in school life. There was an active brass band, choir, dance orchestra and different vocal ensembles. One of them turned into a band named Real which performed at school parties, clubs and company events. The band was active until autumn 1972.
