On Tuesday, we visited a nearby town called Chamonix. Firstly, when we arrived, we got on a little red train which took us up to the mountains to see the famous Aletsch glacier. We had a beautiful view of the mountains and the forest in autumn colours from up there. However, it was devastating to see that most of the glacier had already melted. It was a very concerning example of how climate change actually affects our planet, which fitted very well with our overall topic of the project. The mountains were also relevant because we are talking about different kinds of rocks and relief right now in our geography class
too. Up there we had our lunch, played some group games and walked around on the hiking trails a bit.
When we came back down from the mountains, we had a bit of free time to look around the town. It was really nice – we visited some shops and cafes. Most of us bought some French cheese from a cheese shop there to bring it back to Estonia for our teachers and families to try. We also took some beautiful pictures. We could even see the tip of the Mont Blanc from down there!
